February 15, 2010

Well, it looked like the PTB got on the same page and we got a rare snow day on Friday, February 12. Then, because of freezing weather the library got another day off on Saturday.  Sadly, the snow is all gone and things have gone back to normal — wet and cold.

Changes at RBD: A-B then C

October 7, 2009

caribou1Along with the change in the seasons comes change to RBD Library. And like all changes, some are pleasant — some, not so much.

First off we’re in the middle of shifting the A-BX books from the 2nd floor to the 1st floor. Then a backshift will happen on 2nd floor to free up space for our learning/information commons area. Included in this area will be the Miller Writing Center and Study Partners.  The Writing Center currently has walk up hours of 6-10 pm Sunday through Thursday evenings.

Secondly, Caribou Coffee is near to completion. When that happens Stacks Cafe,  located on the Ground Floor, will close. I hear that October 26 is going to be the official opening so I’ll try and keep you posted.

Finally, and this falls in the “not so pleasant” area, our book buying budget is restricted this year because of the economy so there are no discretionary funds. Books will be ordered on an as needed highly critical basis. Please check with your subject specialist for more information.

TAILGATE @ THE LIBRARY

August 27, 2008

The Ralph Brown Draughon Library will host its annual open house, “Tailgate @ the Library,” on FRIDAY, AUGUST 29, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

This open house orientation is a fun introduction to the library for new students and a good way to remind returning students and faculty of the services and staff available to support their research, learning and instruction. As participants visit different areas of the library, there are fun activities that allow them to engage with the resources that are available every day, such as the subject specialist reference librarians, a state-of-the-art Digital Resource Lab, Special Collections and Archives, Office of Information Technology and the Study Partners center.

This year, the event will feature the Auburn cheerleaders, Aubie, an eagle from the Southeastern Raptor Center and the winning car from the mini-Baja competition. There will also be hot dogs and other tailgate refreshments. For more photos of last year’s event go to AU Libraries Flickr steam.
