December 17, 2008

leading_role

Here’s a digital exhibit on the contributions of women writers, performers and executives from radio and the early days of television in the 1940s and 1950s. Check out Taking a Leading Role: Women in Broadcasting History on the University of Maryland’s webpages.

From the webpage:

The Library of American Broadcasting at the University of Maryland holds an assortment of archival collections pertaining to women’s contributions to American radio and television. This exhibit offers a sampling of items drawn from those collections.

The exhibit provides a glimpse into the lives and careers of 16 American women who worked in broadcasting during its most crucial years of development and expansion, in the mid-20th century. The diversity of their collections illuminates the myriad ways that women shaped the course of broadcasting history.
