May 29, 2008Welcome to CMJN Library Stuff. Why a blog for Communications & Journalism? Well, I want someplace to put “cool stuff” that I think you will like or need. I want someplace to archive library related information which is searchable and I want a way to convey the information without clunking up your mailboxes with 1001 emails. Finally, I want to have fun… oh, and its my job.
I am delighted that we are considering the Factiva database. It covers several newspapers not included on the Lexis-Nexis database (such as the Los Angeles Times and the Wall Street Journal – at least in years I needed them). Having both databases really is essential to scholarship seeking to make claims about how a wide range of national newspapers cover a particular topic. Factiva made my research far more manageable in grad school than it has been since I lost access to it here. If anyone has questions about how comm and journalism faculty might use it, please let me know.
